winter ready

Every year, I knit my girl a scarf. This year, however, I decided she was grown up enough to show off a cowl. I found a beautiful skein of Malabrigo in a blue-purple colourway at my local yarn shop last week in their bargain basement for $10. This was destined for my blue colour loving 3-year-old. How appropriate that the yarn colourway was also called Alpine Pearl, isn’t it?

I resized the Aspen Neck Cowl pattern for a child, casting on 110 stitches rather than 130 and worked 6 pattern section repeats rather than the specified 14 repeats. It is still slightly large and I should have went with my first instinct to cast on only 90 stitches.

But I have to say that my girl totally rocks this look, despite the slightly large size. And because of the size, it doubles as a wrap, too. I like this look on her!

After finishing the cowl, I had a little less than half a skein of yarn leftover, so I paired it with some leftover ivory coloured wool from the Eclipse hat and knit up a matching ear flap hat for her.
