Counting Down: Day 2

baby countdown: day 2

K is spending the day with grandma and grandpa today so I have some time to myself and a little rest. Report from my midwife today: still 2-3 cms dilated (which is the same as last week) and 40% effaced. Doesn’t look good that this baby is coming out anytime today, at least.

Day 2 Activity: Since I’m solo today, I had a chance to wrap the Christmas presents while listening to Christmas music on repeat. Something I don’t get to do with K around since a) she loves to tear apart wrapping paper, and b) she hasn’t quite acquired the appreciation for holiday tunes just yet.

Also started this vest for K, which I’ve been meaning to get around to knitting for several months now. I love Jennifer’s “neighbourly” intentions for her pattern and I love how wonderfully minded it’s made the rounds in the blogsphere. I also love the fact that there is essentially no seaming in this pattern — another plus in my book!

The yarn I’m using is a combo of a DK weight, grey wool blend by StyleCraft and the remaining half skein of Noro Silk Garden from K’s elf hat

In this process, I also tried blocking for the first time. I’ve always been a little ‘blocking shy’ mostly because I didn’t really understand how and when to use it. Overall, I’m pleased with the result. I used one of K’s foam play mats placed on top of our washing machine as an impromptu blocking mat, although I must admit that I should purchase some proper T-pins for future projects.

If this baby doesn’t come by the end of week, I’m sure I’ll have this little vest on my babe by the weekend!

  1. Sounds like a productive day….Actually a wonderfully quiet kind of day. You definitely needed to take this time for yourself — because who knows when an opportunity like this will come again! I’ve never blocked anything either, but Lucy from the Attic24 blog had some excellent tips (check it out if you have a chance). This new afghan that I am crocheting will need blocking and I’m going to follow Lucy’s lead. I hope you get the vest done by the weekend so I can see the masterpiece. Have a great evening!
