crossing off #26

weekending in nyc

I left my babies for the first time and went away for a girls shopping-eating weekend to New York City this past weekend. This definitely qualifies as a check for #26: go on a trip on my 35 things list.

After a two-hour delay at the airport where we thought our plane was going to be grounded and our trip canceled, the weekend turned out to be so wonderful. The weather was a balmy 18 degrees Celsius, so it was perfect for shopping and eating — which is how we spent our too-short trip.

One of my favourite meals was brunch at Sarabeth’s in Central Park.

FAO Schwarz was magical. K would have been in wonderland.

And of course, I had to stop in the legendary Purl Soho. My girlfriend was a good sport and waited while I fondled yarn. I picked up a few skeins of Alchemy Juniper to make these.

Such a great weekend. But it turns out that I missed a lot while I was away. In one short weekend, L eliminated her 5am feeding. She now sleeps from 7pm to 7am straight — boy, did hubby get off easy! And even bigger, she took her very first steps! I can’t believe I missed them. It’s funny because I had said right before I left, “don’t start walking while I’m away.” I didn’t actually think she would do it. Oh, boy!

Ahhh…That’s too bad about missing a few milestones. But was Purl Soho worth it? That is my number 1 NYC destination.
