little seed

My dad is meticulous with his garden. While I’ve been living with my parents during our renovation, I’m able to see first-hand, the care he puts into it. Every morning he goes out, brings the little plantlings out from the shed and the homemade greenhouse and sets them out in designated spots in the backyard. He’ll do this until June when the fear of overnight frost is gone. Then he’ll replant each one in the raised garden beds he’s created. Continue reading

anniversary dinner

Shortly after giving birth, I posted about how much I love sushi. Well, for our anniversary dinner, we went out to celebrate at one of the best (in my opinion) sushi restaurants in the city. Continue reading

pause

On days like today, I want to hit pause, and stay in this moment. If she never grew up and stayed like this forever, I wouldn’t mind. Continue reading

reno monday (on tuesday): week 4

Our renovation is taking a little longer than I had hoped for. We’ve past our fourth week and there’s still so much more to do! A few set backs, such as the weather being too cold during a crucial period we needed the plaster to dry, and a delay in ordering our patio doors, were the main culprits. Continue reading

blast from the past

Since staying at my mom’s house, I’ve had the opportunity to go through some of my things that I had left in her basement when I moved out. I had planned an elaborate scavenger hunt game around the city. Continue reading

i heart knits

I must’ve been really confident with my knitting skills when I started this list and decided to try a fair isle on fingering weight yarn as my first project. After a week of fiddling with the yarn, the carrying over, and the stranding, I decided a simpler pattern was in order for my first colourwork project. Meet the I Heart Knits hat. Continue reading

reno mondays: week 3

Week 3 continued with much needed electrical reworking, including the complete installation of our potlights. The new lighting makes such a dramatic difference. Before, the lighting in our house was always dim and inadequate. Now, we have lights in every room, controlled by dimmers and various switches. I love it! Continue reading

retro knitting

Several weeks ago I came across this 1979 edition of Reader’s Digest Complete Guide to Needlework at a local charity booksale for only $3. Everything from embroidery to knitting to rug-making and macrame, and more — it’s all there with clear illustrations of techniques, stitches and motifs. There’s even a guide for every crochet stitch and pattern imaginable, so I’m very excited to continue my granny square project with the aid of this book. Continue reading
